About the Reverie Chorus Line

The Reverie Chorus Line is a jazz troupe based in Rochester, NY. We rehearse at several historic ballrooms in the heart of the South Wedge neighborhood. Since our inception in 2023, we’ve expanded to offer two levels of instruction (Open and Audition Level), and two styles of routines (Chorus Line and Jazz Troupe). Find out more about these distinctions here!

We offer routines that are open to everyone, regardless of experience, age, gender expression, race, or size. Historically, chorus lines were known for their restrictions on dancers’ bodies, based in racist and patriarchal expectations. The Reverie Chorus Line welcomes anyone who wants to explore this dance form with us!

We are proud to support our LGBTQ+ dancers, and believe that Black lives matter. Every routine has movement accommodations, and we offer payment plans and discounts so that anyone who wants to dance with us can.

About Vernacular JAzz

Vernacular jazz (also known as vintage jazz, authentic jazz, jazz roots, or solo jazz) is a dance style born out of the 1920s and developed throughout the Jazz Era. It was created by Black American dancers across the United States to accompany the jazz music created at the time. This dance style has a rich history, and in every class session, we learn about the historical context of the songs we are dancing to, the moves we are learning, and the historical dancers we are referencing.

Each of our routines draws inspiration from different periods of jazz dance history - generally ranging from the 1920s to the 1950s. We look to historical dancers for inspiration and context, and modern dancers for knowledge and guidance.

Paying it Forward

We believe in supporting our local community, and also paying it forward to support Black jazz dancers. We donate 10% of all income to organizations that support these causes.

In 2025, we donated to the The Next Generation Project, Rochester Food Not Bombs, and Greater Rochester LGBTQ+ Mutual Aid’s Trans Joy Fund.

About Jasmine

Jasmine Mead (she/they) is the creator of the Reverie Chorus Line and choreographs each routine. Jasmine has been dancing for her whole life, and as an adult loves to take advantage of the wide variety of dance styles available in Rochester - including Lindy Hop, burlesque, Irish dance, belly dance, ballet, and pole dance.

Jasmine’s love of vernacular jazz started in 2015, when they were introduced to Lindy Hop. Since then, she has performed, competed, and placed in vernacular jazz in the US and Canada, as well as teaching classes locally. They are a life-long student, and regularly seeks out new classes to further their own dance education.
