Jazz Troupe Costume Guidelines

Below is a list of the costume requirements for all Reverie Jazz Troupe routines. Every routine will use these guidelines, so if you want to perform with us again in the future, you will be using all of these items again!

Below are some suggested options for the base costume pieces, but you are not required to buy from those brands or websites as long as you follow the guidelines listed.

Base Costume:

  • Shoes: any style. Must be either gold or solid black.

    • If you perform with the Chorus Line, you may wear your gold character shoes!

    • If you choose black shoes, they must be solid black, without any colored or white accents.

    • A great option is the Keds Champion shoe in the color Black/Black. There are a lot of knock-off brands available online and in department stores for cheaper.

  • Bottoms: any style. Must be solid black.

    • Both skirts and pants are acceptable! They can be either long or short.

    • The Chorus Line does have a stock of knee length wrap skirts that you are welcome to wear, or you can provide any style of skirt or pants of your own.

    • No sequins or sparkles.

    • If a belt is visible, it should be black or brown.

  • Tops: any style. Must be solid purple, with no prints or logos.

    • Both long and short sleeve tops are acceptable!

    • The purple color can range from pastel to jewel toned. It should be a true purple, and not read as pink or blue. Pantone color 18-3838 is the ideal purple, for your reference, but your shirt does not have to match that color perfectly.

  • Optional:

    • Black face mask if desired by dancer.

Makeup:

  • Required:

    • None.

  • Allowed:

    • Neutral colored lipstick.

    • Eyeshadow in neutral colors (browns, tans, etc). Some shimmer or metallic is okay as long as it isn’t too intense.

    • Mascara, eyeliner, and false eyelashes in black or brown.

    • Foundation, concealer, blush, and other complexion products.

Accessories:

  • Allowed:

    • All permanently or semi-permanently installed jewelry (like facial piercings and ear piercings that can’t be removed).

    • Earrings that are close to the earlobe, like studs or small hoops.

  • Not allowed:

    • Rings, bracelets, necklaces, or earrings that dangle.

    • If any of this is a concern for you, please let me know and I am happy to discuss and find something that works.

Hair:

  • Styled off the neck and away from the face if possible.

  • Exceptions to this include hair that can’t be styled in this way, such as textured hair, protective hairstyles, short hair, or head coverings. In these cases, please reach out and we will find something that works best for you!
